Fear, anger, grief, and trauma are nouns that represent experiences, not actions. They describe states of being rather than activities we engage in.

When asked in the Inquiry of Well-being, "How are you doing?" the typical responses are often generic like "ok," "fine," or "good." This question focuses on one's actions or general state of being rather than delving into emotional experiences.

Conversely, in the Inquiry of Feelings, a more precise question like, "How are you feeling?" can be more insightful, leading to responses that reflect one's emotional state, such as "I am feeling angry," "I am feeling joyful," or "I am feeling scared."

In exploring Self-Presence, acknowledging and expressing our emotions can aid in becoming truly present to ourselves. It's an aspect frequently overlooked and challenging to engage with. Yet, it is a vital part of practicing self-care.

So, what are these Steps to Self-Care?

Pause and Allowance: Take a moment to recognize and grant yourself the freedom to experience your emotions.

Self-Inquiry: Ask yourself, "What am I feeling?” and recognize that it is okay to have an array of feelings.

Observation and Acknowledgement: Notice your emotions without criticism, recognize their existence, and cultivate interest in why they are there; they serve a purpose, so explore your curiosity to comprehend them.

Actionable Steps: Once feelings are acknowledged and accepted, decide whether to work towards changing them or embracing them.

Self-Love and Self-Care:

Genuine self-love and self-care start with recognizing and being present with one's emotions. This awareness can make sipping kale juice more pleasurable, or a spa visit more soothing. By distinguishing and comprehending your emotions, you will gradually foster a more mindful and compassionate relationship with yourself, establishing a solid base for authentic self-care and self-love.
